The exhibition ClayBODIES explores the intersection of two
crafts: ceramics and tattooing. Ceramic artist Teresa Rieger
works with clean lines and geometric shapes, juxtaposed with
organic flowing lines that she etches into the leather-hard
clay using a tattoo machine. The resulting lines are later colored
with pigments, similar to the process of tattooing, where
marks are created through the disruption of the body and the
application of ink to these areas.

In another project, she collaborates with Bremen-based tattoo

artist Nadine Ramez, whose visual language is primarily influenced by ornaments and patterns reminiscent of Arabic calligraphy. Unlike on a mobile body, here, her flowing forms and ornaments merge with the inherent static nature of the clay body. The ornaments were transferred onto the clay using a template, similar to the tattooing process, and later glazed.
