Join us at (Con)temporary Crafts Studio for an exciting residency opportunity!

The (Con)temporary Crafts Studio is delighted to invite established artisans and creators to apply for our 2024 residency program. Located in the historic city centre of Bremen, Germany, our 300m² space serves as a hub for design, crafts, and sustainability; supported by the Federal Programme for Sustainable Inner Cities and Centres (ZIZ) and the Bremen Economic Development Agency (WFB).

About the studio & your space 😉

Our studio is a dynamic space for creativity and materiality, combining tradition with innovation. It features a workshop and transparent manufactory area, an exhibition and concert venue, a crafts shop, and a café.

In addition to our own workspaces –Mapu Speakers (high-end loudspeaker manufacture) and Textile Visionen (textile upcycling collective)– we offer a third workspace dedicated to guest residents to work on a broad range of themes such as:
Wood | paper & printmaking | metal & glass | jewellery | ceramics | wool & textiles | upcycling & recycling | material innovation | mycelium & natural fibres, or such emblematic projects related to design and material innovation.

RESIDENCY DETAILS

• Duration: 3–10 weeks
• Open to: Artisans, Designers, Artists, Makers, Innovators
• People who are not permanently living in Bremen. International applicants are welcome.
• Demonstrated professional creative achievements.
• Self-motivated, ability to work independently
• Deadline: ongoing

WHAT’S INCLUDED

• ⁠Financial support to cover your travel, accommodation and production costs. (200 – 250€ weekly – conditions apply)
• Your own workspace.
• Access to CCS’s spacious and versatile studio (ceramic, wood, fine-metal, textiles, photography & digital design, etc.) office space, and exhibition area, including wifi, printer, barista coffee, wheelchair accessible.
• Support and access to a community of like-minded creatives and opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration to share your skills and knowledge with our network of creators in Bremen.
• ⁠Exposure through our network, website, newsletter, social media, exhibitions and events.
• ⁠Opportunity to sell your finished products in our shop

APPLICATIONS

Applicant’s should register via our online form and upload the following:
• Residency Proposal (one page) out-lining intended direction of work + proposed public engagement piece.
• Current CV and Bio
• Images – minimum 5 unique pieces of work.

Applications are welcome at all times, given the ongoing aspect of this initiative. Details are to be defined individually! A Selection Committee will review submissions. Only successful applicants will be notified via email.

EXPECTATIONS & OBJECTIVES

• Commitment to be present in the CCS work-station minimum 30 hours per week.
• Engage in collaboration, and peer knowledge-sharing with members at CCS.
• Minimum of one public engagement event (workshops, exhibition and/or presentation).
• Sharing of residency progress through your social media channels.
• Sound development of the proposed residency application.
