LA PETITE ABEILLE is French and means “the little bee” in German. Jana Willemsen produces exclusive leather goods in small editions under this name. The leather comes from certified European tanneries that work with vegetable tanning agents and are therefore particularly environmentally friendly. After the individual parts have been cut out, each piece is sewn by hand, stitch by stitch, using traditional saddlery methods. No machines are used in the entire production process, only tools that have been used in one way or another by generations of saddlers.
“Craftsmanship fascinates me immensely. It is something very special to be able to look at a finished workpiece at the end of the working day. That, coupled with the joy of designing new cuts and developing new ideas, gives me an incredible amount of pleasure. What I particularly like about leather as a material is how daily use gives each piece a very individual patina over time. It reminds you of how long the piece has been with you and what you have experienced with it.”
